With the release of “New Super Mario Bros. Wii”, Let us take a moment to remember how this ¥1.838 trillion (2009) empire started… cruelty towards a little red crustacean, and the struggle between man, woman and ape.

Today I thought it would be interesting to calculate the amount of time I’ve spent playing with Wii since it was released, November 19, 2006. Thanks to the “Nintendo Channel”, and some minor calculation… I’ve spent: 31,598 minutes playing games; this translates in to: 21 days, 22 hours, and 38 minutes. This equates to 3.6% of my time devoted to playing Wii.

Does it seem like I’ve been playing it that much? Not at all!  In fact I was a little shocked. I also find it laughable to think I’ve been complaining about a lack of games given my table included 139 games.

Don’t take this as a criticism of playing video games- I am positive games can be good for you, and I do consider them a form of very interesting and immersive art. The point is we don’t realize how little bits and pieces sometimes fit in to the whole… a minute here and there can add up.

The lesson: there are things in your life which eat away time without you realizing– you can spend that time doing what may not be best for you, or you can take those minutes here and there to improve on yourself and your surroundings… it adds up!
